Hydroseeding FAQS
We are often asked questions about the services we provide and how they benefit our customers. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions and our responses. We hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to drop us a line with any questions you have!
What is Hydroseeding?
Hydroseeding is the simple procedure of applying grass seed, fertilizer, hydro mulch and water in one liquefied application.
How much does Hydroseeding cost?
Hydroseeding prices will vary greatly. Conditions such as grass type, soil additives, slopes, and access are some of the factors that will affect cost.
What type of grass seed is used in Hydroseeding?
Just about any type of grass seed can be used in Hydroseeding. It depends on the area(s) of application (sunny or shady for example) in determining the grass type.
Why is the green/blue color gone from my hydroseeded lawn?
The green/blue dye will fade and disappear after a day in some cases, and in other instances it may last for a week. The colorant has no bearing on the quality of the hydroseed or the impression that the hydroseeded lawn has washed away.
Will the green/blue stains on the surrounding concrete go away?
Yes. The dye that may have splashed onto foundation or walkways will usually fade away within a few days and can be hosed off with a garden hose.
How much to water after hydroseeding?
Initially water is essential to the development of a strong root system. Newly hydroseeded areas should be watered as much as 2-3 times a day. Special care should be taken to ensure that the area is NOT saturated during watering and puddles DO NOT form. An irrigation system is often the best method of watering. The goal is to have a consistently moist area for the best germination results.
Can I walk on the hydroseed once it is applied?
Only as much as is absolutely necessary. Heavy traffic on a newly seeded area can permanently damage the new grass. It can leave depressions and, in some cases, cause bare spots to form.
Is Hydroseeding guaranteed?
Marino's Lawn Service will stand by all of our work. Incidents such as torrential rains, hurricanes, or other acts of nature are beyond our control and often not covered. A common problem in the development of new growth is neglect (i.e. not watering the property sufficiently will cause the yard to appear spotty and incomplete).
Is Hydroseeding better than sod?
Hydroseeding is considerably less expensive than the costly application of sod, and the process is better overall for the environment. Ultimately, attention to your investment will determine what your results are with either choice.
Does a soil test need to be done before hydroseeding?
We recommend a soil test as an important tool in evaluating your soil requirements.
